Buergbrennen

The tradition of to celebrating the beginning of spring and the end of winter. Buergbrennen can be translated as "burn the fort". Takes place on the first Sunday after Carnival (Fuesent). This tradition appeals on a pagan
ritual with burning torches, processions and crowds.
The fort is made from wood, crates, straw , old christmas trees and build in form of the castle or just as cross.
Traditionally all people has posibility to visit the local market with a hot Glühwein and Grillwurst.
Each commune celebrate Buergbrennen on their own way, so do not forget to check what is happening locally.
